Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 3 manufacturers: Daihatsu, Mazda & Toyota.
The Computer is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 42 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 8 Daihatsu notifications from 2021 in this archive. For scale, 2,042 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 6 months.
Defect
On cold-climate specification vehicles, the body integrated control computer located inside the fuse block has an improperly designed circuit controlling the brake lights. Electrical noise generated during wiper operation causes excessive current to flow through the fuse block, which may damage internal components. Continued use in this condition may, in the worst case, cause the brake lights to stop illuminating.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, verify the part number of the fuse block and, where applicable, replace it with a fuse block incorporating a corrected body integrated control computer.
