Defect
In the steering gear, an improperly sealed boot mounting area combined with an air conditioning drain hose positioned directly above allows condensate water to drip onto the mounting area and enter the gear housing. Continued operation in this condition causes rust to develop inside the gear, producing abnormal noise. In the worst case, bearing damage may occur and result in loss of steering control.
Corrective action
Add an extension hose to the air conditioning drain hose on all vehicles and inspect the interior of the steering gear boot. Vehicles showing evidence of water intrusion must have the steering gear replaced with a new unit. On vehicles with no evidence of water intrusion, properly reinstall the boot.

状況
ステアリングギヤにおいて、ブーツ取付け部のシールが不適切かつエアコンドレンホースが直上にあるため、エアコン凝縮水が当該取付け部に滴下しギヤ内部に浸入するものがある。そのため、そのままの状態で使用を続けると、ギヤ内部に錆が生じて異音が発生し、最悪の場合、ベアリングが破損し操舵ができなくなるおそれがある。
改善措置
全車両、エアコンドレンホースに延長用ホースを追加するとともにステアリングギヤのブーツ内を点検し、水の浸入が認められたものはステアリングギヤを新品と交換する。水の浸入が認められないものはブーツを適正に取付ける。
