Defect
An improper seal at the steering gear boot mounting area, combined with the air conditioning drain hose routed directly above it, allows condensate from the air conditioning system to drip onto the mounting area and enter the interior of the steering gear. Continued operation in this condition causes rust to develop inside the gear, resulting in abnormal noise. In the worst case, bearing damage may occur and the driver may lose steering control.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, add an extension hose to the air conditioning drain hose and inspect the interior of the steering gear boot. If water intrusion is found, replace the steering gear with a new unit. If no water intrusion is found, reinstall the boot correctly.

状況
ステアリングギヤにおいて、ブーツ取付け部のシールが不適切かつエアコンドレンホースが直上にあるため、エアコン凝縮水が当該取付け部に滴下しギヤ内部に浸入するものがある。そのため、そのままの状態で使用を続けると、ギヤ内部に錆が生じて異音が発生し、最悪の場合、ベアリングが破損し操舵ができなくなるおそれがある。
改善措置
全車両、エアコンドレンホースに延長用ホースを追加するとともにステアリングギヤのブーツ内を点検し、水の浸入が認められたものはステアリングギヤを新品と交換する。水の浸入が認められないものはブーツを適正に取付ける。
