Issue
Improper temperature control during the plating process for the gas-filled stay used on the back door generates internal stress during plating, causing micro-cracks to form on the stay surface. The enclosed gas then leaks through these cracks. In the worst case, the stay can no longer hold the back door open.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, the back door stay is replaced with a conforming part.
