Filing in context
The Fuel Injection System is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 23 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 34 Isuzu notifications from 2020 in this archive. For scale, 526 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 6 years and 9 months.
Defect
On medium-duty trucks and buses, the specified tightening torque for the injector mounting bolts in the fuel injection system is incorrect, leaving the injector gasket with insufficient sealing performance on some units. Combustion gas leaks past the gasket, causing the injector mounting bolts to loosen. Increased vibration then causes the bolts to fracture, which stalls the engine and renders the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the gasket with the corrected part and tighten to the specified torque. If any fuel injection system components are found to be damaged, replace those parts with new ones.
