Defect

In taxi and similar high-usage applications, the headlamp may remain illuminated for extended periods beyond the design assumption. Heat and ultraviolet radiation from the bulb can cause the aluminum vapor deposition on the reflector to peel. Continued use causes a progressive loss of light concentration, reducing luminous intensity. In the worst case, the headlamp may no longer satisfy Safety Standards Article 32 (headlamp requirements).

Corrective action

On all vehicles, replace the headlamp reflector with the corrected/revised part and replace the lens with a new unit.
