Defect
In taxi and other extended-use applications, headlamp bulbs may remain illuminated far longer than anticipated. The heat and ultraviolet radiation emitted by the bulb can cause the aluminum vapor-deposited coating on the reflector to peel. Continued use reduces light-focusing efficiency, causing luminous intensity to gradually decrease. In the worst case, the headlamp may no longer satisfy the requirements of Safety Standards Article 32.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the headlamp reflector with a corrected part and replace the lens with a new unit.
