Defect
The impeller (resin vane wheel) of the low-pressure fuel pump was molded under improper conditions, resulting in insufficient resin density. This allows the impeller to absorb fuel and swell, causing deformation. The deformed impeller contacts the pump case, causing the fuel pump to malfunction. In the worst case, the engine may stall while driving.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the low-pressure fuel pump with a corrected part.
