Filing in context
The Computer (Engine) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 49 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 39 Mazda notifications from 2018 in this archive. For scale, 4,554 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles.
Defect
In the engine control computer of gasoline-engine vehicles, an improper manufacturing process used for the electrolytic capacitors in the injector drive power circuit causes internal damage to some units. Continued use allows the damage to progress, causing the engine to stall and preventing restart. If the ignition switch is then left in the ON position, the drive components inside the injectors and high-pressure fuel pump may overheat, melting surrounding resin components and allowing fuel to leak. In the worst case, this may result in a vehicle fire.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the engine control computer and replace it with a conforming part. If the inspection reveals an abnormality, also replace the injectors and high-pressure fuel pump with new parts. Additionally, inspect the wiring harness condition and replace it with a new part if damage is found.
Affected models & chassis ranges
This filing lists 2 type code(s). A vehicle is affected if its chassis number falls within one of the ranges below.
