Filing in context
The Rear-View Mirror is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 8 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 8 Honda notifications from 2017 in this archive. For scale, 234 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 4 years and 3 months.
Defect
In the door mirror, the surface treatment on the movable contacts inside the mirror switch is inadequate, causing the contacts to wear during switch operation and generate wear debris. Continued use allows the debris to accumulate, oxidize, and increase contact resistance. As a result, the door mirror may retract unexpectedly while driving or while the vehicle is stationary.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the door mirror switch with a corrected part.
