Defect
In the fuel cell control computer (FC-ECU), the fault detection program for the fuel cell stack is incorrect. When the high-voltage battery is fully charged, the program may misidentify a drop in fuel cell stack cell voltage as stack degradation. This causes warning lights and warning messages to illuminate and the fuel cell system to shut down. In the worst case, the vehicle may become inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, reprogram the fuel cell stack fault detection program with the corrected/updated software.
