Defect

The seal performance evaluation for the fuel tank cap and the dimensions of the packing holder assembled into the cap are inadequate. When fuel causes the packing to deform, closing the cap may allow the packing to shift, resulting in insufficient sealing. As a result, during hard deceleration with a full or near-full tank, fuel may leak past the packing seal and be discharged through the drain tube. Additionally, during vehicle washing, water may enter the tank through the unsealed area, causing engine malfunction and rust at the bottom of the tank. Continued use allows the rust to progress and, in the worst case, fuel may leak.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, replace the fuel tank cap with a corrected part and inspect the cap's seal condition to determine whether water has entered the tank. If water intrusion is confirmed, on vehicles equipped with a steel fuel tank, replace the fuel tank, fuel pump, and fuel injectors with new parts. On vehicles equipped with a titanium fuel tank, replace the fuel pump and fuel injectors with new parts.

状況

 燃料タンクにおいて、燃料タンクキャップのシール性評価及び当該キャップに組付けられたパッキンホルダの寸法が不適切なため、パッキンが燃料で変形すると、キャップを閉めた際にパッキンがずれ、シール性が不足することがある。そのため、燃料が多い状態で急減速をすると、燃料がパッキンのシール部から漏れ、ドレンチューブより排出されるおそれがある。また、洗車時に水がシール部からタンク内に浸入すると、エンジン不調やタンク底部が錆び、そのままの状態で使用を続けると錆が進行し、最悪の場合、燃料が漏れるおそれがある。

改善措置

 全車両、燃料タンクキャップを対策品と交換するとともに、当該キャップのシール状態を点検し、タンク内への水浸入を確認する。水が浸入している場合、鋼板製燃料タンク装着車両は、燃料タンク、燃料ポンプ、インジェクタを新品に交換し、チタン製燃料タンク装着車両は、燃料ポンプ、インジェクタを新品に交換する。
