Filing in context
The Other (Control System) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 46 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 36 Mitsubishi notifications from 2021 in this archive. For scale, 478 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 4 years and 2 months.
Issue
In the pre-collision brake system, the control unit's control program is incorrectly calibrated, causing the system to misidentify forward objects or shadows as pedestrians. When this occurs, a warning is displayed and an alert brake application—a moderately firm brake input intended to prompt the driver to take evasive action—is activated. This may cause the driver to react with an unnecessary, abrupt braking input, resulting in a hard stop.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, reprogram the pre-collision brake system control unit with a corrected/updated software specification so that the alert brake does not activate when pedestrian detection is based solely on camera input.
