Defect
On medium-duty route buses, the rubber components used in the starter are made of an inappropriate material, and the idling stop-and-start system's ring gear has insufficient wear margin. Frequent engine starts by the idling stop-and-start system cause the flywheel ring gear to wear prematurely. Continued use allows the starter to spin without engaging, and in the worst case, the engine may become unable to start.
Corrective action
On all vehicles: (1) Replace the starter with a corrected part and inspect the flywheel ring gear for wear; if wear exceeds the service limit, replace the ring gear with a new part. (2) Reprogram the idling stop-and-start system control software with the corrected program for ring gear wear.

状況
中型路線バスにおいて、スタータに使用されているゴム部品の材質が不適切であること 及び フライホイールリングギヤの摩耗に対する余裕が不足しているため、アイドリング・ストップ&スタート・システムによるエンジンの始動を頻繁に行うと、当該リングギヤが早期に摩耗するものがある。そのため、そのままの状態で使用を続けると、スタータの空転が発生し、最悪の場合、エンジンが始動不能となるおそれがある。
改善措置
① 全車両、スタータを対策品に交換すると共にフライホイールリングギヤの摩耗状況を点検し、使用限度を超えていた場合は新品のフライホイールリングギヤに交換する。 ② アイドリング・ストップ&スタート・システムの制御プログラムを、フライホイールリングギヤの摩耗対策品に書き換える。
