Defect

On medium-duty route buses, the rubber components used in the starter are made of an inappropriate material, and the flywheel ring gear has insufficient wear margin. When the idling stop-and-start system frequently restarts the engine, the ring gear may wear prematurely. Continued operation in this condition causes the starter to spin without engaging. In the worst case, the engine may become unable to start.

Corrective action

Reprogram the idling stop-and-start system control software with the corrected version incorporating the flywheel ring gear wear countermeasure.

状況

中型路線バスにおいて、スタータに使用されているゴム部品の材質が不適切であることおよびフライホイールリングギヤの摩耗に対する余裕が不足しているため、アイドリング・ストップ&スタート・システムによるエンジンの始動を頻繁に行うと、当該リングギヤが早期に摩耗するものがある。そのため、そのままの状態で使用を続けると、スタータの空転が発生し、最悪の場合、エンジンが始動不能となるおそれがある。

改善措置

②アイドリング・ストップ&スタート・システムの制御プログラムを、フライホイールリングギヤの摩耗対策品に書き換える。
