Filing in context

The Wiper is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 14 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 47 Mitsubishi notifications from 2016 in this archive. For scale, 607 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 7 years and 1 month.

Defect

The front wiper system has an inadequate waterproof structure at the front deck. Water travels between the front deck garnish and the windshield glass and intrudes into the joint between the wiper motor and the wiper link, causing abnormal wear inside the joint. In the worst case, the joint between the wiper motor and the wiper link may separate, rendering the wipers inoperative.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, the joint between the wiper motor and the wiper link will be inspected. If abnormal wear is found, the wiper link will be replaced with a corrected part. If no abnormal wear is found, the rubber cover at the wiper link joint will be replaced with a corrected part. Because replacement parts require time to procure, owners will be notified of the defect and vehicles will be remedied in order of age once parts become available.
