Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Mitsubishi & UD Trucks.
The Power Steering is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 43 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 56 Mitsubishi notifications from 2015 in this archive. For scale, 2,330 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 4 years and 5 months.
Defect
On large touring buses, output variation among power steering oil pumps causes oil temperature to exceed the heat tolerance of the return hose. Continued operation allows the return hose to separate from the power steering oil tank, resulting in an oil leak. As a result, steering effort increases.
Corrective action
For vehicles with 100,000 km or more of travel: inspect the color of the power steering oil tank to assess pump condition. If the pump is determined to be defective, replace the power steering oil pump, tank, and hose assembly with corrected parts. For vehicles registered within one year or with fewer than 100,000 km: because minimal tank discoloration makes pump condition assessment unreliable, replace the power steering oil pump, tank, and hose assembly with corrected parts without performing the color inspection.
