Filing in context
The Engine Assembly is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 43 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 56 Mitsubishi notifications from 2015 in this archive. For scale, 4,581 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 month.
Defect
On small trucks, the chain stretcher and upper skid mounting bolts in the engine may be insufficiently tightened due to inadequate assembly control. Continued use in this condition causes the fastened sections to loosen, resulting in abnormal noise and engine oil leaks. In the worst case, internal engine damage or seizure causes a roadside breakdown.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the engine with a good unit.
