Filing in context
The Other (Electrical System) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 12 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 56 Mitsubishi notifications from 2014 in this archive. For scale, 4,255 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years and 6 months.
Defect
On large route bus hybrid vehicles, the inverter — the device that converts electrical current — may have insufficient durability and reliability. Inverter failure prevents the vehicle drive motor and auxiliary motors from operating, causing the hybrid system warning lamp to illuminate and power output to decrease. In the worst case, the vehicle may become inoperable and power steering function may be lost.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, add a fuse to the inverter electrical circuit, update the hybrid system control ECU software, and replace the inverter cooling system water pump relay with a new unit. The inverter itself is to be replaced periodically with a new unit at appropriate intervals.
