Filing in context
The Other (Engine) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 46 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 38 Mitsubishi notifications from 2011 in this archive. For scale, 3,161 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 4 years and 8 months.
Defect
On engines installed in medium and large buses, manufacturing variation in the high-pressure fuel injection pipes produces wrinkles on the inner surface of the pipe connector. Fuel injection pressure acting on these wrinkles causes cracks to form at the connector, allowing fuel to seep and drip. Continued use in this condition allows the leaking fuel to accumulate in the groove of the rocker cover located at the top of the engine. Vehicle movement can then cause the accumulated fuel to spill externally, creating a risk of vehicle fire.
Corrective action
Replace the high-pressure fuel injection pipes on all vehicles with corrected parts.
