Defect

On large transit bus HEV models, insufficient clearance between the intake hose and the turbocharger allows heat from the turbocharger to harden the rubber of the intake hose. Continued use in this condition causes the intake hose to develop a hole, supplying the engine with more air than the air flow sensor mounted on the air cleaner detects. As a result, exhaust emissions may fail to meet regulatory standards.

Corrective action

Replace the intake hose on all vehicles with a new part and add a heat-resistant cover to the hose surface.
