Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Mitsubishi & UD Trucks.
This filing is one of 80 Mitsubishi notifications from 2013 in this archive. For scale, 2,914 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 9 months.
Defect
On large buses, insufficient clamping force on the heater hose retaining clamps allows coolant flowing inside the heater hose to enter at the hose end, where it breaks down the hose's reinforcing threads. Continued use in this condition reduces hose strength until the hose can no longer withstand internal coolant pressure. The hose then ruptures and leaks coolant, degrading defroster performance and potentially obscuring the driver's forward field of vision through the windshield.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the heater hoses and retaining clamps at locations with insufficient clamping force with corrected parts.
