Filing in context
The Service Brake, General is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 2 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 17 Honda notifications from 2013 in this archive. For scale, 624 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 9 months.
Defect
In the vacuum-type brake booster (master power unit), the booster housing crimp position was set incorrectly during the manufacturing process. When the brake pedal is applied, the internal seal that maintains vacuum may shift out of position, causing loss of vacuum retention. As a result, stopping distance when braking may be greater than the driver anticipates.
Corrective action
On all affected vehicles, inspect the housing displacement of the master power unit. Any unit that falls outside the inspection standard must be replaced with a conforming unit.
