Filing in context
The Lubrication System is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 11 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 80 Mitsubishi notifications from 2013 in this archive. For scale, 2,023 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 9 months.
Defect
The control software for the electric oil pump — which circulates oil for cooling and lubrication of the generator and the front drive motor — is inappropriate, causing the pump to become inoperable. When this occurs, a warning chime sounds, the EV system warning lamp in the instrument cluster illuminates, and the information display shows an EV system fault. The vehicle enters a fail-safe mode in which power generation is disabled, output is restricted, and maximum vehicle speed is limited to 50 km/h; propulsion is limited to the rear drive motor within the remaining battery charge. Continued driving in this state will render the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
Replace the electric oil pump on all vehicles with the corrected part.
