Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Isuzu & Nissan.
The Battery is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 20 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 46 Isuzu notifications from 2013 in this archive. For scale, 3,222 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 11 years and 2 months.
Defect
On certain emergency vehicles, the plastic band securing the battery cable lacks sufficient durability. The band may break, allowing the battery cable to contact the exhaust pipe. In the worst case, the battery cable may short circuit and cause an engine stall while driving.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the band with a corrected part and secure it to the vehicle body. If rust or other conditions prevent proper attachment of the corrected part to the body, reroute the battery cable. Any battery cable found to be damaged must be replaced with a new unit.
