Filing in context

The Engine Assembly is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 43 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 6 Lexus notifications from 2010 in this archive. For scale, 501 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years.
Defect
Microscopic foreign material embedded in the valve spring material during production reduces spring strength, which may cause the spring to fracture. A fractured valve spring produces abnormal noise and causes engine malfunction. In the worst case, the engine may stall while the vehicle is in motion.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the affected valve springs with the corrected parts.
