Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Lexus & Toyota.
The ABS is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 30 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 6 Lexus notifications from 2010 in this archive. For scale, 233 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 10 months.
Defect
The ABS control program is calibrated incorrectly, causing braking force after an ABS activation cycle to fall below the level present immediately before activation. When ABS activates during braking on icy or uneven road surfaces, the driver may experience a pronounced sensation of free travel or delayed braking response. If the driver maintains constant pedal pressure after ABS deactivates, stopping distance may be greater than anticipated.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, reprogram the ABS control program with the corrected software. In the interim, notify owners of precautions to observe while driving prior to the software update. Note: For the Prius PHV, SAI, and Lexus HS250h, the control program will be updated as soon as the corrected software is available.
