Filing in context
This is the only filing in the archive that cites the Pressure Control/Transmission System as the affected component. This filing is one of 44 Mitsubishi notifications from 2009 in this archive. For scale, 3,205 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 9 months.
Defect
On vehicles equipped with a compressor for refrigeration or cold-storage applications, the regeneration control program for the regenerative DPF is incorrectly calibrated. While the vehicle is stopped, the service brake air tubes and parking brake air tubes, or the center brake cable, routed near the exhaust pipe may reach excessive temperatures. Continued operation can cause the air tubes or cable to melt, resulting in reduced braking force and parking brake malfunction.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the DPF regeneration control ECU with a corrected unit incorporating the updated program. Additionally: (1) On vehicles equipped with three compressors, and on bed-less vehicles equipped with two compressors, replace the air tubes with new units. (2) On vehicles equipped with a center brake, verify parking brake lever operation and measure parking brake force; if a defect is found, replace the center brake cable with a new unit.
