Filing in context
The Fuel Hose / Pipe is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 62 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 39 Nissan notifications from 2008 in this archive. For scale, 153 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 5 years and 11 months.
Defect
On the fuel filler pipe connecting to the fuel tank, the joint between the pipe and its mounting bracket was not painted during manufacturing. This allows rust to develop at the joint. Continued use allows the rust to progress and perforate the pipe, which in the worst case may cause fuel to leak during refueling.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the affected pipe with the corrected part. Because supply of the corrected part will take time, as an interim measure all owners will be notified of the defect and vehicles will be transitioned to the corrected part sequentially, beginning with those that have been in service the longest.
