Filing in context
The Fuel Hose / Pipe is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 62 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 41 Nissan notifications from 2012 in this archive. For scale, 2,233 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years and 9 months.
Defect
During manufacturing of the engine fuel pipe, internal wrinkles form at the connector section with inconsistent depth, and some connector sections were tightened below the specified torque. When high fuel pressure is applied, cracks can initiate from these wrinkles and fuel may leak from the connector.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the fuel pipe for fuel leaks, including seepage and dripping. Any fuel pipe with confirmed leakage — including seepage or dripping — must be replaced with a high-pressure specification pipe and tightened to the revised specified torque. Pipes with no leakage must be retightened to the revised specified torque.
