Filing in context
The Computer (Control Unit) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 7 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 23 Honda notifications from 2007 in this archive. For scale, 1,043 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 10 months.
Defect
Due to an incorrect manufacturing process, the capacitor inside the Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) control unit is damaged on some units. As a result, electrical noise generated by voltage fluctuations is not suppressed, causing the brake pedal stroke sensor to malfunction and momentarily activate brake assist. In the worst case, while the vehicle is in motion, the brake system may activate suddenly without the brake lights illuminating.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, add a wiring harness with a capacitor to the VSA modulator control unit.
