Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 3 manufacturers: Mazda, Nissan & Suzuki.
The Computer (Engine Control) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 6 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 35 Mazda notifications from 2007 in this archive. For scale, 2,095 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles.
Defect
The plating applied to the electrode terminals of the ECU (engine control computer) is improper, causing the terminals to oxidize and the solder bonding them to peel away. Continued use leads to poor electrical contact at the terminals, illuminating a warning light and causing unstable engine idling. In the worst case, the engine stalls and cannot be restarted.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the ECU serial number. Where the affected ECU is installed, replace it with a conforming unit.
