Filing in context
The Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 11 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 10 Suzuki notifications from 2009 in this archive. For scale, 2,643 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 7 months.
Defect
During manufacturing of the continuously variable transmission (CVT) oil pump, inadequate clearance control of the internal gears resulted in insufficient gear clearance, causing interference between the gears and the pump interior. This wear on the pump interior causes the gears to seize, preventing the oil pump from operating and rendering the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
Replace the continuously variable transmission (CVT) on all vehicles with a corrected unit.
