Filing in context
The Continuously Variable Transmission is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 8 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 15 Honda notifications from 2006 in this archive. For scale, 2,244 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 month.
Defect
The oil pump that supplies hydraulic pressure to the continuously variable transmission has an improperly machined mating surface on the pump body. This allows pump discharge pressure to force the rotor into contact with the sliding surface. Continued operation causes the rotor and sliding surface to seize. In the worst case, the pump may fail, rendering the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the continuously variable transmission with the corrected part.
