Defect
The oil pump that supplies hydraulic pressure to the continuously variable transmission has an improperly machined mating surface on the pump body. This allows pump discharge pressure to force the rotor into contact with the sliding surface. Continued operation causes the rotor and sliding surface to seize. In the worst case, the pump may fail, rendering the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the continuously variable transmission with the corrected part.
