Filing in context
The Service Brake System (General) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 3 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 70 Mitsubishi notifications from 2006 in this archive. For scale, 3,350 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years and 4 months.
Defect
The air charge pipe is routed incorrectly, causing it to contact the underbody support member (sill). Continued use allows vehicle vibration to damage the pipe, resulting in an air leak. In the worst case, the horn may fail to activate and braking force may decrease.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the air charge pipe with a corrected part.
