Defect

In the variable-nozzle turbocharger fitted to the engine, improper machining of the turbine housing shroud causes interference with the turbine blades. Continued use in this condition may cause the turbine blade to fracture, producing white smoke and, in the worst case, causing the engine to stall.

On all vehicles, reprogram the control software and add a stopper to the link mechanism. Verify the serial number of the variable-nozzle turbocharger and, if applicable, replace it with a conforming unit.
