Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Mazda & Suzuki.
The Cooling System is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 34 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 13 Mazda notifications from 2006 in this archive. For scale, 955 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 4 months.
Defect
The engine coolant hose at the engine outlet is improperly installed. During high-speed operation, elevated water pressure can cause the hose to shift from its mounting position. Continued use allows the hose to contact surrounding components and sustain damage, or to separate entirely, releasing coolant. In the worst case, the engine may overheat.
Corrective action
On naturally aspirated vehicles: replace the coolant hose with a corrected part equipped with a protective cover, and add a clamp at the hose insertion point. On turbocharged vehicles: add a clamp at the hose insertion point and replace the harness bracket with a corrected part, then inspect the hose for damage. (1) If no damage is found, add a protective cover to the hose. (2) If damage is found, replace the hose with a corrected part equipped with a protective cover.
