Filing in context
The Accelerator is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 34 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 36 Mitsubishi notifications from 2003 in this archive. For scale, 4,381 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 4 months.
Defect
The combination of the drum-type throttle connection structure and the accelerator cable is incompatible, leaving the cable with insufficient durability against repeated bending stress. Repeated throttle open-and-close operation will cause the accelerator cable to fracture. As a result, pressing the accelerator pedal may no longer raise engine speed.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the cable connection component with a corrected part and simultaneously replace the cable with a new one.
