Filing in context
The Wiring is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 236 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 140 Mitsubishi notifications from 2005 in this archive. For scale, 2,000 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 11 years and 10 months.
Defect
In medium-duty buses, the electrical wiring inside the engine compartment was routed improperly, causing the wiring on some vehicles to contact the bolts securing the muffler. Vehicle vibration during driving damages the wiring insulation, leading to a short circuit. In the worst case, the rear lighting units may fail to illuminate or the engine may become unable to start.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, add mounting clips to the affected wiring and reroute it away from the muffler bolts. Additionally, inspect the wiring and repair any damaged sections.
