Filing in context
The Wiring is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 236 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 140 Mitsubishi notifications from 2005 in this archive. For scale, 3,251 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years and 6 months.
Defect
On large all-wheel-drive vehicles, the electrical wiring routed inside the left frame is improperly routed, causing it to contact the brake hose bracket or the power steering oil pipe on some vehicles. Continued use allows vehicle vibration to damage the electrical wiring or the steering oil pipe. In the worst case, the headlights may fail, the engine may stall and be unable to restart, or steering effort may increase significantly.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, secure the electrical wiring and steering oil pipe to the bracket. Where the electrical wiring is damaged, repair it. Where the steering oil pipe is damaged, replace it with a new part.
