Filing in context
The Wiring is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 236 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 140 Mitsubishi notifications from 2005 in this archive. For scale, 2,929 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 2 years and 11 months.
Defect
Electrical wiring in the center of the vehicle was improperly assembled during production, leaving portions of the wiring pinched by the vehicle body. Continued operation allows vibration during driving to abrade and damage the wiring insulation, causing a short circuit. In the worst case, the wiring may burn through, rendering the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
Inspect the subject wiring on all vehicles. Any wiring found to be pinched or damaged is repaired.
