Filing in context
The Steering Linkage is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 45 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 12 Hino notifications from 2003 in this archive. For scale, 1,848 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 10 years and 1 month.
Defect
The idler arm in the steering linkage has insufficient strength. Frequent steering inputs at the full-lock position over many years of use may cause the idler arm to crack. Continued operation in this condition may cause the idler arm to fracture, resulting in loss of steering control.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the affected idler arm with the corrected part.
