Filing in context
The Propeller Shaft is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 52 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 23 Hino notifications from 2006 in this archive. For scale, 2,339 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 6 years and 10 months.
Defect
The propeller shaft in the power transfer assembly was manufactured using an improper machining process, resulting in insufficient strength on some units. Continued use can cause a crack to develop at the yoke section of the propeller shaft. In the worst case, the propeller shaft may fracture, leaving the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the affected propeller shaft with a conforming part.
