Overview
| MLIT filing number | 1108980 |
|---|---|
| Type | Statutory Recall (government-mandated recall) |
| Date filed | November 28, 2002 |
| Manufacturer(s) | Nissan, Nissan Diesel |
| Component | Steering Linkage |
| Production period | September 2000 — November 2002 |
| Vehicles affected | 372 units |
Defect
In the steering linkage, the intermediate arm shaft has insufficient strength, causing some shafts to bend. Continued use in this condition will damage the bearing. In the worst case, the shaft fractures and the driver loses steering control.
Corrective action
Because supply of the corrected part requires additional time, an interim measure is being implemented: starting with the highest-mileage vehicles, the arm shaft, bearing, and thrust bearing are replaced with new parts in order of priority. Once the corrected parts are available, the permanent repair will be applied to all vehicles.
