Filing in context

This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Nissan & Nissan Diesel.

The Steering Linkage is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 45 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 54 Nissan notifications from 2010 in this archive. For scale, 2,831 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 14 years and 6 months.

Defect

The maximum steering angle is set incorrectly. When studless (winter) tires are fitted and the steering wheel is turned to full lock, the tire may contact the drag link. Continued use in this condition allows rust to develop at the contact point on the drag link, which may result in damage to the component.

Corrective action

Inspect the tires on all vehicles. On vehicles fitted with tires that may contact the drag link, modify the steering angle stopper. If contact marks are found on the drag link, replace it with a new part. In addition, apply a caution label to the driver-side door opening on all vehicles.
