Defect
The pressure-relief fuel filler cap has a partially defective pressure-relief valve design, which may allow the valve's airtight seal to degrade with continued use. In the worst case, fuel may leak through the relief valve. Additionally, the weld position of the guide inside the fuel filler neck is incorrect on some vehicles. When a corrected replacement cap is installed, an airtight seal with the filler neck cannot be maintained, and fuel may leak. Note: This recall was originally filed on August 22 under Recall No. 659. It was subsequently determined that the filler neck guide weld position varies in a portion of vehicles already in the field, preventing the August 22 corrected filler cap from seating properly. This filing addresses that issue. (Amendment filed: September 7, 2000; 2 complaints; corrective action began September 16, 2000.)
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the pressure-relief valve. Any vehicle on which the cap has not yet been replaced with the corrected cap is to receive the corrected filler cap. Additionally, inspect the position of the guide inside the filler neck. Where the guide position is incorrect, replace the filler neck with a corrected part.

状況
燃料注入口の減圧弁付燃料フィラーキャップにおいて、減圧弁の構造に一部不適切なもの があるため、そのままの状態で使用を続けると、減圧弁の気密性が損なわれ、最悪の場合 、当該減圧弁より燃料が漏れるおそれがある。また、燃料注入口(フィラーネック)内ガ イドの溶接位置に一部不適切なものがあるため、対策弁付のフィラーキャップを装着する と、フィラーネックとの気密が確保できなくなるものがあり、燃料が漏れるおそれがある 。なお、本件は8月22日にリコール番号659号で届出されたものであるが、市場に流 通している車の一部にフィラーネック内ガイドの溶接位置にバラツキがあり、8月22日 の対策であるフィラーキャップが適切に締まらないものがある事が判明したため、その対 策を行うものである。(変更届出:平成12年9月7日届出、クレーム2件、平成12年 9月16日対策開始)
改善措置
全車両、減圧弁を点検し、対策弁付のフィラーキャップに交換されていないものについて はフィラーキャップを対策品に交換する。また、燃料注入口内ガイドの位置を点検し、当 該位置が不適切なものは、フィラーネックを対策品に交換する。
