Defect
On vehicles where the crankshaft oil seal in the engine front case has been replaced with a service seal made of a different material than the original production part, a combination of machining variation in the engine front case and variation in seal press-fit depth may reduce the seal's retention force. The seal may then back out of its bore, causing engine oil to leak and the oil pressure warning lamp to illuminate. Continued use under these conditions can cause seizure of internal engine components, rendering the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the oil seal installation. Where a service seal of a different material than the original production part has been installed: if no oil leak is present, install an oil seal retention plate onto the front case; if an oil leak is present, replace the seal with a new part and install the retention plate. As an interim measure pending availability of service parts, notify all owners of the defect, advise them to monitor engine oil level regularly, and communicate precautionary driving guidance.

状況
エンジンフロントケースに装着しているクランクシャフトオイルシールにおいて、車両生産時と異なる材質の補修用オイルシールに交換された場合、エンジンフロントケースの加工ばらつき、およびオイルシールの圧入量ばらつき等の複合要因により、当該オイルシールの保持力が低下しているものがある。そのため、当該オイルシールが抜け出し、エンジンオイルが漏れ、油圧警告灯が点灯し、そのままの状態で使用を続けると、エンジン内部部品が焼付き、走行不能となるおそれがある。
改善措置
全車両、当該オイルシール取付部を点検し、車両生産時と異なる材質の補修用オイルシールに交換されたものについて、オイル漏れが無い場合は、フロントケースにオイルシール抜け止め用プレートを追加装着する。なお、オイル漏れがある場合は、オイルシールを新品に交換するとともに、フロントケースに抜け止め用プレートを追加装着する。 なお、改善措置用部品の供給に時間を要することから、当面の暫定措置として、全ての使用者に不具合の内容を通知し、交換部品の準備が整うまでの間、エンジンオイル量の点検を啓発し、運転時の注意事項を周知する。
