Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Mazda & Suzuki.
This is the only filing in the archive that cites the Other (Boarding Device) as the affected component. This filing is one of 35 Mazda notifications from 2007 in this archive. For scale, 1,267 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 5 months.
Issue
On vehicles equipped with an auto-step, the auto-step controller software is incorrect. When the engine is off and the auto-step is extended, pressing the brake pedal two or more times per second causes the controller to incorrectly determine that the vehicle is in motion. This triggers the controller's fail-safe function and, in the worst case, the step may retract suddenly while a passenger is boarding or alighting.
Corrective action
Replace the auto-step controller on all vehicles with the corrected part.
