Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Mitsubishi & Nissan.
This is the only filing in the archive that cites the Other (boarding device) as the affected component. This filing is one of 70 Mitsubishi notifications from 2006 in this archive. For scale, 2,491 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 8 years and 10 months.
Issue
On welfare vehicles modified to include a tail-gate lift, the terminal section of the weight detection switch — which senses whether a wheelchair is present on the lift — is exposed. If the hook of the lift's buffer spring breaks, the spring may contact the exposed switch terminal. In the worst case, this contact may cause the lift to operate unintentionally without the operator activating the control switch.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, insulating material is applied to the weight detection switch terminal section and all four springs are replaced with new units. A caution label is also affixed.
