Issue
The mounting structure of the front impact sensor — which detects offset-collision forces at an early stage — is improperly designed, allowing the mounting bolts to loosen. During an offset collision, the loosened sensor may fail to detect the impact promptly, delaying the airbag ignition timing and preventing the airbag system from performing as intended.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, a metal reinforcement plate is added to the airbag front impact sensor mounting point and the sensor is replaced with a new unit.
